The direct reason for founding Subroutine Records is the connection between label bosses Koen ter Heegde, Niek Hofstetter and Tsjalling Venema, who know each other from university. They all walk around with an idea for a label and find each other in it. In the summer of 2004 a list will be compiled with bands that are interesting to release at that time. It features the Groningen singer/songwriter Djurre de Haan (Awkward I) whom they know personally and the men are very interested in the Groningen bands Vox von Braun and Propeller. The latter goes to RaRa Records – the label of Ard Boer, also known for Lopend Vuur and with whom Koen ter Heegde of Subroutine used to run Silent Minority Records. Awkward I is willing to participate and on September 29, 2005 the first EP titled False Starts in Lo-Fi will be released. This EP is quite well received. The label was born. (PopArchive Groningen)
