Ruby, het project van Lesley Rankine (Silverfish) en Mark Walk (Skinny Puppy), bracht in 1995 het debuutalbum Salt Peter uit. De plaat was zijn tijd ver vooruit en werd bijna volledig met computers en zonder liveband gemaakt. Het album is een donkere, broeierige fusie van triphop en industrial. De sound wordt gekenmerkt door rustig dreigende beats en zware, dreunende synths. Het resultaat is een provocerend maar sterk geschreven album dat als een invloedrijk debuut wordt beschouwd.

De muziekstijl is een mix van triphop en industrial, met invloeden uit elektronische muziek en alternatieve rock. De sfeer is vaak donker en experimenteel, wat doet denken aan het werk van artiesten als Portishead, Massive Attack en Nine Inch Nails.
