Twintig jaar na het legendarische eerste S&M-concert, bundelden Metallica en het San Francisco Symphony opnieuw hun krachten. Deze historische samenwerking vond plaats ter ere van de opening van het Chase Center in San Francisco op 6 en 7 september 2019. Het resultaat is S&M2, een monumentale live-registratie van meer dan tweeënhalf uur. De setlist omvat twintig nummers, variërend van klassiekers tot moderner werk, allemaal opnieuw gearrangeerd voor band en orkest.
